The main issue addressed in this paper is to provide a reassessment of the Roman presence at Hatra during the 3rd century CE, still subject of controversy. Based on archaeological, epigraphical and historical evidence, it offers a wider picture of the impact that the Roman influence had on the life of the city; a special focus is given to the possible location of the Roman garrison inside the city.
