– The Vie de saint Martin is the transposition into prose of a poem composed in the middle of the 13th century by Péan Gastineau. Written anonymously in the first half of the 15th century, the mise en prose has a mixed textual tradition: one acephalous manuscript (Tours, BM, 1025) and five early prints have been preserved. Following an analysis of the relationship between the manuscript and the editio princeps (Tours, 1496), this paper examines the main issues of textual criticism that face the editor of the text.

Abstract

– The Vie de saint Martin is the transposition into prose of a poem composed in the middle of the 13th century by Péan Gastineau. Written anonymously in the first half of the 15th century, the mise en prose has a mixed textual tradition: one acephalous manuscript (Tours, BM, 1025) and five early prints have been preserved. Following an analysis of the relationship between the manuscript and the editio princeps (Tours, 1496), this paper examines the main issues of textual criticism that face the editor of the text.
