F. Varallo, Esibire la morte. Cerimonie e apparati funebri alla corte dei Savoia (secoli XVI-XVIII)

Il volume propone uno studio delle cerimonie e degli apparati funebri alla corte sabauda tra il secondo Cinquecento e la prima metà del Settecento attraverso le fonti archivistiche, letterarie e figurative. Il lavoro indaga le scelte iconografiche e decorative adottate nelle diverse occasioni, il ruolo degli artisti e architetti coinvolti in relazione ai mutamenti artistici e culturali, ma soprattutto in rapporto alla funzione e al differente significato che le esequie dei duchi e dei principi della casata hanno avuto sul piano politico e diplomatico nel complesso sistema degli stati di antico regime. The volume proposes a study of the ceremonies and funeral arrangements at the Savoy court between the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 18th century through archival, literary and figurative sources. The work investigates the iconographic and decorative choices made on the various occasions, the role of the artists and architects involved in relation to artistic and cultural changes, but above all in relation to the function and different significance that the funeral of the dukes and princes of the house had on a political and diplomatic level in the complex system of the states of the ancien regime.
