This special issue of Lexia: Journal of Semiotics explores the dynamic interplay between urban spaces and cultural memory through the lens of heritage. Urban heritage is presented not only as a static repository of historical artifacts but as an active, processual phenomenon that shapes and is shaped by the sociopolitical context. The contributions examine the evolving semiotics of urban spaces, the political contestations surrounding monuments, and the negotiation of collective memory and identity within cities. By addressing the tensions between preservation and transformation, the issue highlights how urban heritage mediates the relationships between history, culture, and community in the urban milieu.

Abstract
This special issue of Lexia: Journal of Semiotics explores the dynamic interplay between urban spaces and cultural memory through the lens of heritage. Urban heritage is presented not only as a static repository of historical artifacts but as an active, processual phenomenon that shapes and is shaped by the sociopolitical context. The contributions examine the evolving semiotics of urban spaces, the political contestations surrounding monuments, and the negotiation of collective memory and identity within cities. By addressing the tensions between preservation and transformation, the issue highlights how urban heritage mediates the relationships between history, culture, and community in the urban milieu.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
