The articles in this special issue emerged from a recent international conference entitled ‘Complex Instruction Research and Practice: Working Together for Equity in Diverse Classrooms’, held in September 2023 at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Researchers from Brazil, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the US came together to exchange insights on Complex Instruction (CI), a pedagogical approach designed to foster equity and participation in diverse classrooms. This special issue continues the vivid and cooperative spirit of discussions started at the conference, aiming to build equitable, excellent, and democratic classrooms around the world.

Abstract
