Among the Plural Approaches, Intercomprehension (IC) is the methodology that most stimulates plurilingual interaction and language mediation skills. In written and oral interproduction contexts, participants are obliged to implement strategies that require a broad spectrum of linguistic and extralinguistic competences to perform a successful communication. We outline aspects of IC theoretical background that make it a privileged field of investigation and development of competences. We illustrate a corpus-based study that proves how strategies—including English as a shared language—are applied and peer education can help in developing both mediation soft skills and linguistic competence. Finally, we discuss how to assess those competences using existing frameworks of reference.

Abstract
Among the Plural Approaches, Intercomprehension (IC) is the methodology that most stimulates plurilingual interaction and language mediation skills. In written and oral interproduction contexts, participants are obliged to implement strategies that require a broad spectrum of linguistic and extralinguistic competences to perform a successful communication. We outline aspects of IC theoretical background that make it a privileged field of investigation and development of competences. We illustrate a corpus-based study that proves how strategies—including English as a shared language—are applied and peer education can help in developing both mediation soft skills and linguistic competence. Finally, we discuss how to assess those competences using existing frameworks of reference.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
