Tra Uomo, umani e umanə. Per una difesa critica dell’antropologia filosofica

The paper presents a critical defence of philosophical anthropology in response to the claim that its paradigm is now conceptually exhausted. The text is divided into two parts. The first part (§1) gives a brief overview of the state of the art of the discipline almost a century after its birth, emphasising both the narrowness of its reception and the emergence of some original developments. In order to contribute to the consolidation of the latter, the second part presents (§2) and discusses (§3) three important accusations against the project of philosophical anthropology: abstractness, anti-naturalism and anthropocentrism. The conclusions argue that philosophical anthropology can rejects such accusations, provided that its conceptual toolbox is supplemented in the light of the historical, cultural and technological changes that late twentieth-century humans have begun to experience.
