Il cinema e la città. Alle origini del Festival Internazionale Cinema Giovani

At the root of film festivals, there are always different interests. This article mainly focuses on the Festival Internazionale Cinema Giovani – now Turin Film Festival – as it represents an engaging case study when read within the context of its foundation. The needs that led to the birth of the FICG are to be sought first and foremost within the city’s political development project that started to evolve in the second half of the 1970s. At the same time, the festival converges with experiences that developed in Turin from the late 1960s. This article presents an initial historical reconstruction based on methodological tools of festival studies, analyzing the motivations behind its creation and the developments leading up to its first edition.
