In this chapter, you will first learn what the term ‘bio diversity’ means, and why the food system is reliant on the resources it provides. Second, you will gain an understanding of our ability to produce food under a variety of different circumstances, using a set of biotic and abiotic resources directly and indirectly related to animal, human, plant and ecosystem health; this creates resilience in our food system. Third, you will be trained in the definition of ecosystem services, and the link between biodiversity and ecosystem services in tackling global environmental challenges such as food security, water regulation, climate change and emergence of infectious diseases. Using examples, throughout the chapter, you will learn about potential actions and solutions using One Health approaches that will help to maintain good biodiversity and ecosystem services, whilst sustaining resilient food systems and tackling other global environmental challenges

Abstract
In this chapter, you will first learn what the term ‘bio diversity’ means, and why the food system is reliant on the resources it provides. Second, you will gain an understanding of our ability to produce food under a variety of different circumstances, using a set of biotic and abiotic resources directly and indirectly related to animal, human, plant and ecosystem health; this creates resilience in our food system. Third, you will be trained in the definition of ecosystem services, and the link between biodiversity and ecosystem services in tackling global environmental challenges such as food security, water regulation, climate change and emergence of infectious diseases. Using examples, throughout the chapter, you will learn about potential actions and solutions using One Health approaches that will help to maintain good biodiversity and ecosystem services, whilst sustaining resilient food systems and tackling other global environmental challengesI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
