The essay examines the introduction to the volume edited by Anna Maria Finoli and analyses the manner in which the texts were assembled and presented. By studying Finoli’s responses to the critical discourse of her era, it is possible to demonstrate that the volume was conceptualised in accordance with Viscardi’s theories on Andreas Capellanus’s De Amore. The subsequent references to these texts in the years up to 1978 indicate that Finoli’s opinions appear to have undergone a transformation following the publication of the Artes amandi volume.
