The reappraisal carried out on the early Sicilian red-figure production allows us to appreciate a very complex and varied “mosaic”, characterized by several synchronic “beginnings” and not only by a single “beginning”. Moreover, the systematic com- bination of shape and image allows us to re-evaluate some important dynamics related to various productive traditions, thus supposing some possible migratory movements of craftspeople (painters and/or potters) between Campania and Sic- ily. Some peculiar Sicilian case-studies reveal in fact the important issue of the craftspeople’s mobility among red-figure productions in Magna Graecia and Sicily.

Abstract
The reappraisal carried out on the early Sicilian red-figure production allows us to appreciate a very complex and varied “mosaic”, characterized by several synchronic “beginnings” and not only by a single “beginning”. Moreover, the systematic com- bination of shape and image allows us to re-evaluate some important dynamics related to various productive traditions, thus supposing some possible migratory movements of craftspeople (painters and/or potters) between Campania and Sic- ily. Some peculiar Sicilian case-studies reveal in fact the important issue of the craftspeople’s mobility among red-figure productions in Magna Graecia and Sicily.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
