The paper analyzes the literary genre of divinatory treatises (svarodayasāstra) within the peculiar technical modality of the exam of breath (svara) within the two nostrils, in the context of late Indotibetan buddhistic tantric and paratantric literature. A relevant passage from the Kālacakratantra, namely 1,95-113, is translated, with copious notes from Puṇḍarīka’s gloss Vimalaprabhā on it. Some evident links with astrology and phonetics, both endued with symbolic significance, are highlighted; five explanatory tables are proposed in order the illustrate in a schematic way some of these correspondences.
