The article carries out a contrastive analysis between the morphosyntactic structure of the ordinal superlative form in Italian and in English. This pattern is considered an example of a morphosyntactic calque of English origin, imported into the Italian language. This study is based on descriptions and data provided by grammars, dictionaries and language corpora, in particular English Web 2020 and Italian Web 2020. The aim of this analysis is to observe the differences between these two languages in the syntactic construction of the complex noun phrase that characterises the ordinal superlative form, as well as the different semantic relations that are established among the elements of the phrases in the two languages.
