The depiction of school proposed by François Bégadeau and Laurent Cantet in the movie "Entre les murs" offers an opportunity to critically reflect on some facets of the crisis of the educational experience. Particularly, this paper explores the normative dimension of school: the transmission of knowledge, the meaning of discipline, the meritocratic logic and, more generally, the relationship between some students who grew up in a Parisian suburbs and the scholastic authority.

Abstract

The depiction of school proposed by François Bégadeau and Laurent Cantet in the movie "Entre les murs" offers an opportunity to critically reflect on some facets of the crisis of the educational experience. Particularly, this paper explores the normative dimension of school: the transmission of knowledge, the meaning of discipline, the meritocratic logic and, more generally, the relationship between some students who grew up in a Parisian suburbs and the scholastic authority.
