Abstract

In the Canti di Castelvecchio, in particular in the two appendices of Ritorno a San Mauro and Diario autunnale, Pascoli presents himself by resorting to the traditional metaphorical theme of the «gardener poet» and employs a rich floral symbolism. The article examines this apparatus and starts from these images, traced back to their classical sources, to better outline the interpretation of some compositions such as La tessitrice and to follow, in the two appendices, the progression of a rethinking of the poetics of family pain and mourning.
