The article deals with the so-called eyewitness accounts of historical events written in French prose from the beginning of the thirteenth to the beginning of the fourteenth century. After reviewing three recent studies on the subject, it examines the question of the coherence of this body of texts from the point of view of their internal characteristics and intertextual connections, as well as from the point of view of the manuscript tradition.
