Images and chronotopoi. Iconolexical strategies in the memory of the Anschluss. A multimodal analysis. This contribution examines the use of iconic strategies in the memory of the Austrian Anschluss of 1938 and the convergence of written and spoken language between literary autobiographical prose, narrative autobiographical interviews and archive images. The analysis focuses on the emotional marking of some common language words (e.g. Anzeichen, Massen, Jubel, jubeln, etc.) found in both the novel Inferno by Mela Hartwig and the interviews of Israel Korpus Wiener in Jerusalem (ISW) of the Datenbank für Gesprochenes Deutsch (DGD) of Institut der Deutsche Sprache (IDS) in Mannheim. This study employs three analytical approaches: emotionality studies at the textual level in the narration, the theory of Chronotopoi in literary fiction and in the narrative autobiographical interviews, and multimodal linguistics to identify the multimedia and multimodal references useful for understanding the implicatures contained in the analysed texts. The final section of the article presents a comparison between the documentary material analysed thus far and the images and archive footage of the events in question. This case study exemplifies the potential of corpora and Digital Image Archives to inform literary and translanguaging research.

Abstract
This case study exemplifies the potential of corpora and Digital Image Archives to inform literary and translanguaging research.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
