Le parole per dirlo: strategie comunicative e censura sul web cinese.

A scientific approach to studying Web censorship in China and the netizens' strategies to avoid it poses many methodological problems. In this essay, I tried to enucleate a few main categories of web "products" useful for my investigation: a) products carrying a political protest objective; b) products born with satirical intent, without specific political objectives, which have changed their meaning and function over time; c) products originated on the blogs' debates not directly connected to political issues but potentially sensitive, which over time have become the object of control and sanction; d) products embedded in the perception of political correctness which, following the maturation of new forms of social sensitivity, are considered inappropriate by the authorities; e) products "overriding" between the web and the civil society that have become part of the youngest' slang. The essay focuses on the first two categories, presenting some cases in their diachronic development, up to very recent and unexpected reinterpretations and re-uses (Ai Weiwei in the current direction of Turandot, staged in Rome, March 2022). For the remaining categories, my article considers the recent developments of some terms that also arouse the interest of Western media.
