The popularity of Ivan Ilyn in the studies of 19th and 20th centuries philosophy in Russia was always limited to specialized scholars, until recently when his name has been increasingly associated with Putin's ideology. In order to understand how Ivan Ilyn became «Putin's philosopher», this essay will first elaborate the historical figure of Ivan Ilyn and the main directions of his thought, trying to highlight the possible reasons for his increasing popularity in Russia in recent decades. Secondly, we will look at Ilyn's success in the 1990s and finally examine how his thinking has influenced the development of ideology in Putin's Russia, or how it has been used within the ideological framework of Putinism.
