In recent decades, both European and Italian institutions have increasingly focused on equity issues within scientific and academic contexts. Drawing on the findings of a nationwide study on the intersections between academic careers, gender, and policy in Italy, this article investigates key processes that drive the production and reproduction of gender disparities in universities. The study reveals a complex and pervasive picture of gender inequality within Italian academia, marked by a widespread lack of awareness among university staff and a persistent tendency to dismiss the need for targeted actions and transformative policies.

Abstract
In recent decades, both European and Italian institutions have increasingly focused on equity issues within scientific and academic contexts. Drawing on the findings of a nationwide study on the intersections between academic careers, gender, and policy in Italy, this article investigates key processes that drive the production and reproduction of gender disparities in universities. The study reveals a complex and pervasive picture of gender inequality within Italian academia, marked by a widespread lack of awareness among university staff and a persistent tendency to dismiss the need for targeted actions and transformative policies.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
