According to Strabo, there were two places called ‘Orneai’: one in Argolis and the other ‘between Corinth and Sicyon’. The geographer’s account, however, complicates the picture provided by sources from the Classical and Hellenistic periods (which seem to indicate the existence of only one Orneai in Argolis) and is only echoed in later sources. The existence of an Orneai ‘between Corinth and Sicyon’, in particular, may be the result of interference with scholarly material collected, for example, in commentaries on some passages from Aristophanes’ Birds.

Abstract
According to Strabo, there were two places called ‘Orneai’: one in Argolis and the other ‘between Corinth and Sicyon’. The geographer’s account, however, complicates the picture provided by sources from the Classical and Hellenistic periods (which seem to indicate the existence of only one Orneai in Argolis) and is only echoed in later sources. The existence of an Orneai ‘between Corinth and Sicyon’, in particular, may be the result of interference with scholarly material collected, for example, in commentaries on some passages from Aristophanes’ Birds.File in questo prodotto:
