This paper explores the challenges that cultural formations and identity-based conflicts pose to liberal-democratic constitutionalism. Moving beyond traditional frameworks of multicultural accommodation, the author calls for a conceptual shift capable of embracing the complexity of contemporary pluralism. Through the lens of “super-diversity” and symbolic expressions such as cancel culture, the analysis highlights how acts of cultural contestation often reflect demands for recognition and inclusion rather than threats to democratic order. The inadequacy of the nation-state paradigm and existing legal tools to manage this pluralism is addressed, advocating for a relational and participatory understanding of citizenship and constitutional democracy. By reframing diversity not as deviation but as a constitutive element of society, the author proposes a transformative approach to democratic governance—one that centers legitimacy, redistribution, and intercultural dialogue. Ultimately, the paper promotes complex thinking as a path toward renewing constitutional commitments in the face of intensifying cultural conflict.
