Pandemics, wars, and ecological crises have profoundly heightened the human sense of vulnerability, revealing the fragility of the systemic balances that govern both our social environments and the broader natural world. This heightened awareness often manifests as a troubling, and at times unconscious, recognition of our interdependence within increasingly unstable socio-ecological systems. As a result, our experience of existence is shaped by a growing perception of vulnerability and transformation. In response, we frequently exhibit a kind of schizophrenia – a cognitive dissonance between the digitally rede$ned world we perceive and a physical reality that no longer feels stable or secure. Confronting this dissonance constitutes one of the central ethical challenges of our time. In this context, the flight strategy of the bat offers more than an ethological metaphor; it provides a model for how we might learn to navigate an unpredictable and shifting world.
