This paper deals with the phenomenology of (micro-)diachronic variation in orally transmitted toponymic repertoires, as documented by the Atlante Toponomastico del Piemonte Montano (ATPM). After a preliminary overview of the main features of the ATPM data, several examples will be discussed to depict the diachronic stratification of toponyms, drawing broader conclusions about both the linguistic landscape in Piedmont and the dynamics that can be observed in the evolution of toponymic heritage.
