Abstract

This paper, in light of a brief overview of the debate that (for brevity) the authors summarize as the socio-technical systems approach, proposes a first recon-struction of a theoretical background useful for questioning the organizational sustainability of technological tools and devices, such as ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and artificial intelligence (AI), which are emerg-ing today with a disruptive force. The attempt is to build a bridge between what emerges in the organizational and social fields and in computer science, highlighting the points of contact, in-cluding through the common concept of the artifact. This shared concept can serve as a promising conceptual bridge between the two fields, while acknowledging the distance between their respective inter-pretations. Nevertheless, this distance appears to reveal initial and stimulating similarities that could prove mutually beneficial.
