Gustav Bergmann always had an interest in the Italian philosophical scene of his time, and his interactions with Italian philosophers left some traces on his own philosophy. The article aims at exploring these interactions. The first section mainly deals with biographical and contextual facts; the other two examine in some detail the most important episode, when some writings by Rosaria Egidi acted as a trigger fro Bergmann's reflections in "Ontological Alternatives", which marked a significant step in his critique of idealism.
