This chapter examines language reports (LRs), quoting and reporting speech or thought, across academic, legal, media, and literary registers using a transdisciplinary approach. Drawing on Systemic Functional Linguistics, stylistics, and metadiscourse, it analyses how different frameworks reveal varied forms, functions, and frequencies of LRs. The study finds that registerial context shapes LR strategies, with reporting verbs most frequent, and highlights the value of combining disciplinary perspectives for a nuanced understanding of discourse presentation and evidential practices across diverse communicative contexts.

Abstract
This chapter examines language reports (LRs), quoting and reporting speech or thought, across academic, legal, media, and literary registers using a transdisciplinary approach. Drawing on Systemic Functional Linguistics, stylistics, and metadiscourse, it analyses how different frameworks reveal varied forms, functions, and frequencies of LRs. The study finds that registerial context shapes LR strategies, with reporting verbs most frequent, and highlights the value of combining disciplinary perspectives for a nuanced understanding of discourse presentation and evidential practices across diverse communicative contexts.File in questo prodotto:
