The essay analyses the Angolan artist Kiluanji Kia Henda’s work The Isle of Venus (2018), an installation whose title refers to the so-called Isle of Love from cantos IX and X of The Lusiads by Luís Vaz de Camões. The analysis will shed light on how Camões’ text is echoed in the contemporary work of art, following the main lines of the interartistic dialogue between the two. After exposing the meanings of the episode of the Isle of Love that have already been highlighted by literary critics, I will seek to answer the question of what are the fundamental determinants of the time that interpret it through the work of art, summarising how the reading of Camões’ poem changes in contemporary times.

Abstract
The essay analyses the Angolan artist Kiluanji Kia Henda’s work The Isle of Venus (2018), an installation whose title refers to the so-called Isle of Love from cantos IX and X of The Lusiads by Luís Vaz de Camões. The analysis will shed light on how Camões’ text is echoed in the contemporary work of art, following the main lines of the interartistic dialogue between the two. After exposing the meanings of the episode of the Isle of Love that have already been highlighted by literary critics, I will seek to answer the question of what are the fundamental determinants of the time that interpret it through the work of art, summarising how the reading of Camões’ poem changes in contemporary times.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
