In this article, we present a didactic experiment carried out with students of French Language and Translation at the University of Turin, aimed at raising their awareness of the need for a considered and controlled use of NMT. We will analyse the use of this technology in learning French as a foreign language (FLE), highlighting its advantages and limitations in developing translational, cultural and intercultural skills. This experience will enable us to reflect on the way in which the integration of human/machine dialogue, when approached according to a reasoned approach (MT literacy), can enrich the translating process.

Abstract

In this article, we present a didactic experiment carried out with students of French Language and Translation at the University of Turin, aimed at raising their awareness of the need for a considered and controlled use of NMT. We will analyse the use of this technology in learning French as a foreign language (FLE), highlighting its advantages and limitations in developing translational, cultural and intercultural skills. This experience will enable us to reflect on the way in which the integration of human/machine dialogue, when approached according to a reasoned approach (MT literacy), can enrich the translating process.
