Assessing spelling skill needs the use of standardized tasks which investigate this ability both in spontaneous production (i.e., text production) and under dictation condition (i.e., dictation of texts, sentences, words and non-words). The Italian Writing and Spelling Ability Assessment Battery BVSCO 3 (Cornoldi et al., 2022) includes all these different tasks. However, the administration of all the tasks requires a lot of time (between 40 and 80 minutes) and this could be a problem for many clinicians. The present research is an explorative study investigating whether it is possible to administer a shortened version of the dictation of word and non-words tasks. This shortened version is partially different; hence this examination analyses the extent to which different procedures still offer agreeing findings.
