Malocclusions are among the most common conditions in childhood, with a high prevalence in Italy as well, although epidemiological data remain fragmented. The family paediatrician, due to early and continuous contact with the child, plays a key role in recognising craniofacial developmental anomalies, identifying risk factors and appropriately referring to specialists. This paper provides a summary of the national epidemiological situation, a review of the core competencies required by the family paediatrician and a proposal to overcome the main challenges in the current landscape of paediatric oral health.

Abstract
Malocclusions are among the most common conditions in childhood, with a high prevalence in Italy as well, although epidemiological data remain fragmented. The family paediatrician, due to early and continuous contact with the child, plays a key role in recognising craniofacial developmental anomalies, identifying risk factors and appropriately referring to specialists. This paper provides a summary of the national epidemiological situation, a review of the core competencies required by the family paediatrician and a proposal to overcome the main challenges in the current landscape of paediatric oral health.File in questo prodotto:
