The paper offers a new interpretation of CIL V, 7153, a lost Latin inscription dedicated to a certain Celsus from the modern city of Alba (Piedmont). This monument was most likely destroyed in 1659 fire of Ducal Palace of Turin, where it was kept. Today its erly transcription is crucial as it may provide the only evidence regarding the unknown career of the senator Lucius Publilius Celsus, one of the Emperor's Trajan most prominent collaborators. Despite his role, we lack information about his previous experience; However the onomastic and chronological evidences suggest a strong correspondece between these two characters, offering a new perspective on the possibile cursus honorum of the Italic élite at the beginning of 2nd century AD.
