In the few years in which Luigi Einaudi was governor of the Bank of Italy, he did not operate according to doctrinaire principles, but conducted an analysis of the actual conditions and opportunities according to the objectives of macroeconomic stability and, through it, the wider and general objective – by no means political – of reconstituting a stable and plural society. Einaudi’s action to re-legitimise the Bank of Italy as a modern central bank was intended to give the country the features of a liberal democracy, not merely and simply those of a market economy.

Abstract
In the few years in which Luigi Einaudi was governor of the Bank of Italy, he did not operate according to doctrinaire principles, but conducted an analysis of the actual conditions and opportunities according to the objectives of macroeconomic stability and, through it, the wider and general objective – by no means political – of reconstituting a stable and plural society. Einaudi’s action to re-legitimise the Bank of Italy as a modern central bank was intended to give the country the features of a liberal democracy, not merely and simply those of a market economy.File in questo prodotto:
