This paper aims to analyse the thought of one of the last and most important figures of the British idealist movement. In particular, this work aims to examine Jones' philosophical ideas underlying his conception of the citizen and citizenship. His interpretation of evolutionism is a fundamental feature of his later interpretation of the evolution of the moral character of the individual and substantially characterises his approach to issues of education and social liberalism. His ideas represent an important contribution to the history of political thought.
