Abstract

Conversion is intended as a process of word-formation in the absence of any overt formal marking that can be made responsible for the process. This general definition, that clearly applies to English examples such as to fall → fall and table → to table, needs to be adapted to the morphological format of the single languages, both of the Germanic and of the Romance family under investigation.
