Yoga and Masculinity : Between Gender Stereotypes, Self-Care and Expert Knowledge · This ar ticle – part of a broader investigation into yoga in Italy (2017-ongoing) – examines the yoga industry as a space of cultural and symbolic construction, contributing to sociological debates on gender, religion and media. Drawing on biographical interviews, participant observation and the study of emic sources (blogs, websites, manuals), the analysis highlights overlaps and tensions between lived corporeality and dominant heteronormative representations. Focusing specifically on so-called yoga for men – a diverse set of yoga practices addressed to men – the article explores some of the most widespread gender stereotypes (Section 3. 1.), the self-care practices typical of these forms of yoga (Section 3. 2.), and the modes of producing expert knowledge that shape the imaginary of yoga aimed at men (Section 3. 3.). The article concludes with suggestions for future research.
