City statutes from manuscript to print. Studying the transmission of texts and decorative apparatuses through IVS Commune online

The IVS Commune online platform is a digital resource designed to facilitate the study of the transmission of legal texts and the evolution of books over time, in keeping with the long-term perspective of the long durée. The transmission of legal texts often spans several centuries, as is the case with Roman and canon law. The same is true of the iura propria, including city statutes, whose textual tradition may be particularly complex, making the preparation of a critical edition especially challenging. This paper examines the statutes of the city of Perugia, from the earliest surviving manuscripts to the first printed edition, in order to illustrate the main features and potential of the digital platform.
