The study aims to clarify some lingering doubts about French imitations of comedies by analyzing the similarities between them and the Commedia dell'Arte scenarios, derived from Spanish plays. The results illustrate how Italianism and Hispanism can no longer be considered two separate influences in the complex and heterogeneous literary landscape of seventeenth-century France.
