This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the effects of the 2003 CAP reform on labour in agriculture. The effects of the CAP reform on on-farm and off-farm labour participation of farmers, and on waged labour use are analysed. The conclusion is that, while the models unambiguously predict, ceteris paribus, that the CAP reform decreases on-farm total work, there are no clear-cut theoretical predictions on its effects on off-farm work and on waged labour use, and these issues are to be assessed empirically.

Abstract
This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the effects of the 2003 CAP reform on labour in agriculture. The effects of the CAP reform on on-farm and off-farm labour participation of farmers, and on waged labour use are analysed. The conclusion is that, while the models unambiguously predict, ceteris paribus, that the CAP reform decreases on-farm total work, there are no clear-cut theoretical predictions on its effects on off-farm work and on waged labour use, and these issues are to be assessed empirically.File in questo prodotto:
