A case of anaphylaxis due to processionary caterpillar (Thaumetopea pytiocampa)is reported. Specific IgE was detected by RAST assay (Lofarma, Milan, Italy), with processionary whole-body extract, in the patient's serum. SDS-PAGE of the caterpillar extract showed several bands of 10—100 kDa and IgE immunoblotting assay with serum detected two reactive bands with apparent molecular weight of 18 and 90 kDa.
