A peculiar case of a 77-year-old man who ruptured his anterior tibialis tendon when stamping on a viper in the mountains, is reported. He went to the nearest emergency division complaining of pain and loss of ankle articulation. When the pain persisted, the patient referred to our division and the diagnosis of tendon rupture was made 28 days from trauma. Since the patient was very active and led a sports life, we decided to try a Zancolli-like plasty. The ankle was immobilised for 60 days with a cast. He is now an out-patient and at 6 months his walking capacities are almost the same as those before the accident. The patient is still under follow-up.
