In the first part, the Italian real estate market is analysed and how issues of sustainability are related to it are discussed. Then, the main regulations and tools to rate sustainable building in Italy are presented and the similarities with other foreign tools are highlighted. The theme of regulations leads to the subject of local authorities, where the interventions undertaken by them to achieve the objective of a sustainable building construction are emphasised. Finally, the attitude of public and private owners is discussed with the reference of some case studies, and the developing professions of the future in Italy are suggested.
