Methyl alpha-oxo thiolcarboxylate (aliphatic, aromatic and heteroaromatics) are obtained in good to excellent yields by hydrolisis of the corresponding trimethyl alpha-oxo tritioorthoesters with N-bromosuccinimide in aqueous THF or with HgO/35% aqueous HBF4 in THF.

Abstract
