This investigation focused on marriage and on the general dynamics of living with a partner as some of the most relevant transitions for the development of the individual during the life span (Bronfenbrenner, 1986) and for the processes of identity construction (Bosma, Kunnen, 2001). This investigation has taken into account important current social changes such as postponement and reversibility of choices. The study, which represents the first descriptive phase of a wider research, is aimed at exploring by way of semi-structured interviews, crucial elements for a optimal functioning of couple relationships such as: expressing positive emotions and controlling negative ones; the capability of taking the role of the partner; the communication abilities of the partners; the ability of managing couple relationships; the satisfaction for one’s available time and the perception of stress during the preparation of marriage. This investigation was conducted among 13 people who belonged to couples that decided to marry; their aages ranged from 28 to 44 years. The text analysis, done by the way of ALCESTE, highlighted the presence of five classes; listed from the most frequent to the least these are: 1) management of anger and postponement of the comparison; 2) learning to share and “feeling together”; 3) the times and places of the construction of We – the experiences that strengthen the bondthat exists between the couple; 4) the social network as a limit and a resource; 5) the projection in the future: from being children to becoming parents. Participants described the transition to marriage as a challenge that was not without difficulty. This implies a re-adjustment of the self and one’s own life style, in relation to cohabitation. These findings may represent the basis for constructing an efficient intervention for promoting couples’ wellbeing.

Abstract
These findings may represent the basis for constructing an efficient intervention for promoting couples’ wellbeing.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
