Using a new "cryostabilization" histotechnique, avoiding any chemical fixation, and then cold embedding in a polar plastic (Technovit 7100, Kulzer), we were successfully in revealing aspecific alkaline phosphatase activity also in the cytoplasm of some tracts of Xenopus laevis proximal convoluted tubule (p.c.t.). On the basis of this and other histochemical reactions, we thus can identify three different tracts in the p.c.t., previously considered uniform.

Abstract
