We studied the seasonal dynamic of an alpine population in Styria (Austria). The breeding period started at the end of May and lasted until the end of June. Low temperature delays the beginning of the reproductive activity; maximum water temperature was positively and significantly correlated with the number of active newts in water. The high peaks of water temperature reached during the day can cause inactivity at midday and an early drying of the ponds in the season

Abstract
