Neospora caninum antibodies in Alpine ibex were reported for the first time in sera collected from Alpine ibex in the Gran Paradiso National Park. Seroprevalence was 6.7% at 1 :80 dilution and 14.7% at 1 : 40 dilution from 75 sera collected from 1995 to 1999. No significant differences were observed between seroprevalences of females and males nor between age classes and years of sampling. Our results indicate a steady presence of N. caninum in Alpine ibex of the PNGP, but any hypothesis about a sylvatic cycle of this infection is premature.

Abstract
Neospora caninum antibodies in Alpine ibex were reported for the first time in sera collected from Alpine ibex in the Gran Paradiso National Park. Seroprevalence was 6.7% at 1 :80 dilution and 14.7% at 1 : 40 dilution from 75 sera collected from 1995 to 1999. No significant differences were observed between seroprevalences of females and males nor between age classes and years of sampling. Our results indicate a steady presence of N. caninum in Alpine ibex of the PNGP, but any hypothesis about a sylvatic cycle of this infection is premature.File in questo prodotto:
