Forty-six mitral valves obtained from wild pigs from Liguria-Piedmont were subjected for histopathological and biochemical analysis (electrophoresis, spectrophotometry and densitometry). Qualitative and quantitative composition of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) was evaluated. The following fractions have been separated: hyaluronic acid, dermatan sulfate, eparan sulfate, condroitin sulfate. A slight increase in GAGs was observed: The histopathological feature of these lesions appared mild in comparation to those detected in mitral valves of pigs.
