Level of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in cerebrospinal fluid and serum of 16 goat in advanced stage of scrapie, 11 goats in the initial stage and 8 control animals have been evaluated. As alredy revealed in Creutzfeldt-Jacobs Disease (CID) in man, a statistically significant increase (P<0,05) of NSE levels in the initial stage of the disease has been observed. NSE may be considered useful biochemical marker of neuronal damage of the central nervous system (CSN), as well as a pre-clinical indication for the early diagnosis of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.

Abstract
Level of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in cerebrospinal fluid and serum of 16 goat in advanced stage of scrapie, 11 goats in the initial stage and 8 control animals have been evaluated. As alredy revealed in Creutzfeldt-Jacobs Disease (CID) in man, a statistically significant increase (P<0,05) of NSE levels in the initial stage of the disease has been observed. NSE may be considered useful biochemical marker of neuronal damage of the central nervous system (CSN), as well as a pre-clinical indication for the early diagnosis of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.File in questo prodotto:
