Several samples of m-ZrO2, characterized by different degrees of sinterization, were studied by FTIR and computer graphics. Crystallites of m-ZrO2 fired at high temperatures present a fairly regular termination, mostly along the (111) plane. When highly dehydrated, these materials adsorb CO in an ordered way, forming various CO clusters characterized by different degree of dipole-dipole interaction. If CO2 is pre-adsorbed, surface carbonate-like species are formed which interrupt the ordered formation of CO clusters and the extent of the surface dipole-dipole interactions.
